Duties
The Office of Student Financial Services at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for a Financial Aid Advisor. This position will serve as an advisor to help students successfully navigate systems to identify and secure resources needed to achieve educational goals. The successful candidate will be an active team member providing prospective and current students and parents with information regarding aid programs, application status, eligibility and related policies and procedures with the goal of empowering students to make informed academic and financial decisions.

Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Provide individual advisement to students and parents in person, on the phone, through email and through virtual platforms as needed. Advisement includes determining application status and next steps, troubleshooting problems and identifying resources and explaining government and local policies and regulations.
  • Perform outreach to support successful application completion, aid disbursement and maintenance of eligibility.
  • Assist with reconciliation activities; review records, analyze data and resolve issues.
  • Review output from daily Banner processes and identify records needing resolution.
  • Engage with ongoing regulatory learning opportunities. Utilize federal and state training resources including self-paced learning platforms, webinars and conferences.
  • Provide backup for grant and scholarship processes, including Excelsior Scholarship.
  • Support efficient business operations by completing various administrative tasks such as scanning and indexing, data entry and preparation of student communications as needed.
  • Retrieve and communicate data and status from external databases including COD, HESC, CPS, FA Access and NSLDS.
  • Attend campus events such as Open House, Accepted Students Day and Orientation.
Qualifications
Required:
    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word
    • Excellent math and critical thinking skills

 


Preferred:
  • Prior experience in Financial Aid
  • Experience with Ellucian BANNER
  • Experience with COD, NSLDS, FAA Access
