Job Description:

SUNY Delhi seeks dynamic, forward thinking and engaging Student Financial Services Advisors to the join the Office of Student Financial Services. The Student Financial Services Advisor is a professional position within the Student Financial Services department that advises and performs various financial aid and student account functions. This position will provide in-depth advising to prospective and current students and families on all aspects of the student’s financial cycle, including aid applications, policies, procedures, billing and payments.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide excellent customer service while acting as the first point of contact for incoming inquiries from students, families and the campus community by answering the phone, responding to emails, and meeting in-person and virtually.
  • Provide in-depth advisement on Financial Aid and Student Account topics ranging from application, eligibility, loan borrowing and repayment, special and unusual circumstances, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), payment plans, refunds, and collections .
  • Meet with and counsel students and families regarding individual financial aid packages; answering questions and giving individual advisement based on their aid eligibility and ability to pay.
  • Manages and enters data as necessary, including executing and analyzing reports
  • Work with students and perform outreach to obtain the documentation necessary to complete FAFSA verification, EOP verification, and items needed to resolve other FAFSA or NYS aid application discrepancies.
  • Perform individual FAFSA verifications as mandated by federal law and those who are applying to the SUNY Education Opportunity Program (EOP).
  • Maintain a sound understanding of federal and NYS financial aid programs and regulations.
  • Counsel students and families on other general campus related topics or policies to help provide a more inclusive experience that may include housing, meal plans, department holds, advising and records and registration.
  • Work independently to troubleshoot a wide variety of student issues within cross-functional areas.
  • Participate in college events such as Open House, Orientation, Accepted Student Days as well as other on-campus and local events that includes presentations and FAFSA events.
  • Attend Financial Aid and Student Account training sessions that are on/off campus or virtually as well as campus wide training sessions.  
  • Some travel and weekends may be required for off-campus events and training.

 


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least one year customer service/student support service
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate financial information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • SUNY or Higher Education financial aid experience
  • Ellucian Banner experience

 


Additional Information:

  • Salary: $53,151+ DOQ
  • Budget Title: Financial Aid Advisor, SL3
  • Work Schedule: Monday through Friday days, with occasional evenings and weekend work. Occasional travel to area high schools and conferences will be required.
  • Reports to: Assistant Director of Financial Aid
  • This is a 12-month position
